Brisbane Markets Price Report Pricing Method Disclaimer
Last updated 8 October 2024
The Pricing Method Disclaimer for Brisbane Markets Price Report should be read in conjunction with our full Terms of Service (Legal Terms).
1. Where or data is obtained
The information provided through the Brisbane Markets Price Report App (Services) is owned by or licensed to The Queensland Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries Co-operative (Brismark) and obtained from the data transmitted to the Brismark Credit Service by billing entities (fruit and vegetable wholesalers) that operate at the Brisbane Markets at Rocklea, Brisbane (Billing Entities). An API is used to transmit de-identified data to the Services. The Services and the information provided through the Services (Information), does not include data from transactions that are not billed through the Brismark Credit Service and does not include data from retail or supermarket sales. Pricing information is generally updated from approximately 4.30pm each trading day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays).
2. How prices are calculated
The Services provide information regarding wholesale prices (in Australian Dollars ($AUD)) for produce lines and varieties (products) including Lowest, Most Sales (Mode), Average, and Highest.
Not all pricing data is included from all wholesalers who operate at the Brisbane Markets on all produce lines or varieties. For example, data received through the Brismark Credit Service where there is an incomplete description or unit size may not be included. Also, a minimum of eight transactions (regardless of the quantity sold in each transaction) in one trading day across all wholesalers whose data comprises the report for a specific produce line or variety needs to occur for a price to register for that produce line or variety on that day. If additional data is added to the Services, then this may affect historical prices.
Prices include all produce grades from Australian growing regions as well as imported produce lines or varieties where applicable. There may also be instances where data includes alternative unit sizes to the one listed for a given produce line or variety where it is being sold at a similar price point. For example, a larger carton size of lower grade produce.
Data rules are applied to standardised product descriptions and data across all Billing Entities. Each product will have a default unit type selected. When displaying the product, we will show the values with most data. Standard deviation value (STDEV) method is used to calculate pricing to exclude outlying data that is too far from the Mean price. Outlying data includes unusually high or low prices and invoicing errors. If a produce line has (all varieties) in the description, then this is an average of the Lowest, Most Sales, Average Sales or Highest across all varieties in that produce line (i.e., the sum of the values of each variety in that produce line divided by the number of varieties). The following are definitions of each pricing term:
Standard Deviation – Standard Deviation (σ)
How close the data is spread around the Mean (Average).
(σ = √ ∑in (xi – X)2 / (n-1.64))
where:
- xi = ith random variable
- X = Mean of the sample
- n = number of variables in the sample
Lowest
The lowest price that the product was sold for in the selected time period for the selected produce lines / varieties (excluding outlying data).
Most Sales
The Mode, or the sales price that occurs most often in each data set for the selected produce lines/varieties (excluding outlying data).
Average
Also known as the Mean. Calculated by dividing the sum of the values in each data set by the number of values for the selected produce lines / varieties (X̄ = ∑x i /n) (excluding outlying data).
Highest
The highest price that the product was sold for in the selected time period for the selected produce lines/varieties (excluding outlying data).
